We had an awesome February meeting filled with sharing our stories and struggles with the daily challenges of hearing loss as it relates to our lives and those we love. We had a an outstanding relationships panels of all flavors including the dating world as a single woman, husband and wife, and mother and son.

The Latest in Car Technology for People With Hearing Loss

Hyundai assistive technology for hard of hearingHyundai Motor Company is leading the effort to re-innovate how those hard of hearing or deaf can get all the important stimulus when driving compared to those with normal hearing. Thanks to Audio-Visual Conversion (AVC) and Audio-Tactile Conversion (ATC) assist driving systems, visual and touch clues can be provided to the driver to alert when situations occur that would normally be difficult for those with hearing challenges to immediately notice. Learn more about what is current being developed and is in store toward the future!

February 23 Chapter Meeting – Love is in the Air!

Love is in the Air!Back by popular demand, and in honor of Valentine’s Day, we are hosting our annual relationship panel and interactive session! We will talk about the good and the bad when it comes to communicating with a loved one who has hearing loss. Whether married, dating, or just dealing with a family member, you’ll be sure to have a blast! Please join us!

We meet at the Sherman Oaks Library, 14245 Moorpark Street; socializing starts at 9:30am, with the meeting running from 10am-noon. Coffee, juice, and water provided. Feel free to bring a breakfast item to share. See you there!

We had our best turnout yet since we moved to the Sherman Oaks library early last year. And not to disappoint, Katie Wright, a trainer with HLAA’s N-CHATT program (Network of Consumer Hearing Assistive Technology Trainers) did a great entertaining and informative session talking about the latest and greatest hearing assistive devices. Our own Liz Lesan assisted as well providing further information to members while they checked out the devices on their own.

Madell, a pediatric audiology consultant and speech-language pathologist in Brooklyn, N.Y., shares eye-opening findings revolving around how beneficial it is to treat children with hearing loss, no matter how severe, as early as possible.
