July Meeting Summary – Another Successful Rap Session!

Thanks to everyone who attended our July meeting rap session – while we did not have record attendance, we sure had a mighty, passionate and spirited discussion, moderated by our very own Sandy Blake!

Our meeting began with a thorough recap of HLAA’s recent Rochester Convention, brought

to us by Liz Lesan. As this was the 40 -year anniversary of HLAA, the celebration returned to its roots in Rochester, NY. New this year was a symposium on genetics and its role in hearing loss. You can view the 2019 convention page and program guide here.

There were many vendors showcasing new technologies, with live presentations taking place in demo rooms. Thank you Liz, and know that next year the conference will be taking place in the more geographically desirable city of New Orleans!

Our discussion revolved around a variety of summer travel related challenges (thank you, Sandy, for bringing in your cochlear implant swim protector), but veered off into many interesting areas, including where to get insurance on our precious devices, and how to navigate challenging office situations, including thoughts on how/when to best reveal our hearing loss to others in the workplace.
