Discovering World Hearing Day

March 3 was World Hearing Day (WHD) which included the first-ever “World Report on Hearing” prepared by the World Health Organization (WHO). The theme for this year’s WHD was recognition for “Hearing Care for All”. Many populations are underserved when it comes to hearing services, financial support, and proper care.

The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) website has a page dedicated to WHD. Included on this page are informational pieces about hearing loss, the latest press releases (English and Spanish), and highlights from WHO regarding integrating ear and hearing care into national health plans.

 

Beware of Locked Hearing Aids

Do you know and understand what a “locked” hearing aid is? Perhaps you even have one and may not know it. Currently, there is an important assembly bill (AB435) in the California State legislature you should be aware of introduced by Assemblymember Kevin Mullin

“Locked” hearing aids are not consumer-friendly; they require you to return to the provider you purchased them from for repair and adjustments. This practice takes away your consumer right to choose a provider for proper follow-up and caring for your hearing aid. Many times, this policy is not explained at the time of purchase.

This meeting was a highly requested topic requested from many of you so now is your chance to discover what DOR is all about. Equip yourself with tools to attain employment, achieve independence and realize equality!

This presentation will cover the application process in order to become a DOR consumer, the types of service the consumer will receive, what is expected from the consumers, and the expected outcomes. Plenty of Q&A time afterwards!
