Date: Saturday, November 14
Time: 1 p.m. PT

Alison Freeman Ph.D.Speaker: Alison Freeman, Ph.D., California State University at Northridge (CSUN)

Join our next virtual meeting to learn some tips and strategies on how to deal with hearing loss during the holidays ahead. Speaker Alison Freeman, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who works part-time at California State University at Northridge (CSUN) with both hearing and hard of hearing/deaf/Deaf students. She also has a private practice and is doing teletherapy during the pandemic. She has had a severe hearing loss since early childhood, was orally trained, and is a long-time member of HLAA (she knew Founder Rocky Stone!).

October Meeting with Innocaption

We had a great October meeting with Innocaption. Many thanks to Matt Goncalves and Christina Duarte of Innocaption for a terrific and timely presentation on the workings and important new features of the Innocaption app. We had a nice turnout and a robust Q&A participation.
We decided in lieu of our chapter November meeting to join HLAA-CA on Saturday, November 14th, at 1:00 pm for a presentation on Surviving the Holidays with Hearing Loss with our very own Allison Freeman presenting! Link to follow.
We will also be having an “Open House” on Thanksgiving Day from 11:00 am – 12:15 pm – feel free to stop by during that time frame to say hi and enjoy a little holiday community!

The Pandemic and Hearing Loss

From Hearing Tracker PodcastWe had the pleasure of interviewing Barbara Kelley, the executive director of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). Kelley discusses the challenges her organization has faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep members safe, HLAA converted its annual in-person convention into a virtual event which included a research symposium, and the Walk4Hearing held in 20 cities events were moved online. Throughout the pandemic, HLAA has continued to serve as a critical support hub for people with hearing loss.

Virtual Meeting Coming September 26!

As the pandemic continues, so does our ever-continuing need to stay connected with each other and catch up on how we are doing. The isolation, communication challenges, and just the daily struggles we endure take its toll. Nothing like a time to see each other, talk about how we’re doing and gather the support and encouragement on topics that matter to us.

Please mark your calendar to join us this coming Saturday at 10:00 a.m. PT. We will moderate questions with you all to discuss and learn from each other but please bring your questions and concerns to share with the group. We’ll also talk about plans toward the future with the chapter!
