On May 31, 2026, the Long Beach Walk4Hearing enjoyed great energy and success as hundreds gathered for the event. Hosted as part of the nationwide effort by the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) to support people with hearing loss, the event was a major success—both in participation and fundraising.
This year’s Walk was especially meaningful for the Los Angeles chapter as our “LA Stars” was once again the top fundraising team!
On May 31, 2025, the Long Beach waterfront was alive with energy, laughter, and purpose as hundreds of participants gathered for the Walk4Hearing event. The day was not just about raising awareness for hearing health—it was a powerful reminder that when communities come together, change happens.
A day of celebration and hope
From the moment the first walkers arrived, the atmosphere was heartwarming. Smiling faces, colorful banners, and shared determination filled the air. Families and friends walked side by side, embracing the mission of hearing loss advocacy. The support was overwhelming—each step taken was a step toward accessibility, inclusivity, and empowerment.

We had a cloudy but cool and beautiful morning to celebrate our annual Walk4Hearing event at Shoreline Park. The event drew over 300 people from all walks of life to raise awareness and funds for hearing loss and to show support for all impact in one way or another by hearing loss.
It was a beautiful day to celebrate and experience Walk4Hearing in Long Beach. We had a great turnout and smiles as everyone got a chance to enjoy the festivities, catch up with people they haven’t seen in a while, make new friends, and get informed with technologies and services supporting the hearing loss community.

A big highlight of the event was the Oticon hearing aids giveaway graciously set up by Zina Jawadi. Marissa Acosta ended up winning the hearing aids. She entered because her young niece, Olivia, who was just diagnosed with hearing loss, needed a pair of hearing aids! Marissa and family couldn’t believe it and felt truly blessed and plan to make the Walk an annual tradition! Sometimes the Walk isn’t just about walking, but the lifetime memories and stories that come from the event.

The annual fundraising Long Beach Walk4Hearing is coming up on Sunday, June 11. Helpful information is below on how to join our “LA Stars” team, if you haven’t already, and start raising funds! All funds raised will support and provide resources for our chapter and HLAA to outreach to the people in need.

Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) has an annual fundraiser and raising awareness for hearing loss event called Walk4Hearing. It had been three years since we all got together for this event so for many attending, it was highly anticipated.
The LA Chapter “LA Stars” was once again the top fundraising team. We raised over $7,000 with many of our chapter members participating to raise funds for this important event. The weather was beautiful and the location perfect to enjoy and spread the word. Many folks stayed afterward for a nice lunch and to catch up. We also had a good turnout but expect a bigger turnout next year as many folks didn’t attend this year out of precaution with Covid.
Wonderful memories and friends made with excitement already started for next year. See you then!

Leave it to HLAA-LA to live up to its reputation as the party chapter!! Just days before the full lifting of pandemic restrictions, the gang was already out getting their pride on.
HLAA-Los Angeles officially said goodbye to the pandemic by hosting their first IRL meeting in over a year. And what better reason to meet than the annual Walk for Hearing?
It’s the sign of the times these days. To stay connected, the world is virtual through various online communication platforms. On Saturday, May 16, the chapter had our first virtual meeting using Zoom. Meeting transcript can be found here.

Audio-visual glitches didn’t stop us from enjoying a lively relationship panel yesterday morning moderated enthusiastically by Sandy. Nanci/Steve and Dana/Todd shared their experiences in communication when one partner has hearing loss and the other doesn’t, and how they support one another in the process, while Matthew shared powerful examples of coping with various challenges of working in a retail environment – background music, people talking to him from behind, and answering a LANDLINE PHONE, for starters. Sharon and Leora shared how a mother-daughter bond can improve through good humor and advocacy. Audience participation was fantastic – there was a lot of raw honesty and a heartfelt sharing of the trials and tribulations that result from our hearing challenges.

What a great 2019 Walk4Hearing event! The Los Angeles Chapter “LA Stars” team was again the top and most awesome team thanks to so many that participated and got the word out with their fundraising efforts. HLAA National and our chapter will greatly benefit from all the hard work as we embark on the rest of 2019 on to 2020 advocating for those with hearing loss.
The Walk welcomed over 500 walkers, were joined by 30 amazing teams, and raised over $50,000 and counting. Note that donations will continued to be accepted through July 31 so it’s not too late to contribute! Any questions can be addressed to our info@hlaa-la.org email address.
