Good times and much needed catching up was the scene at our Memorial Weekend picnic held for the first time at Lacy Park in San Marino. The location for our gathering was in a beautiful shaded area of Lacy Park so with blue skies and cool temperatures – we couldn’t have asked for a better setting! A big thank you to our President, Heather Lehr for arranging the location and gathering!
Here is the 411 for our picnic, which will be in lieu of our usual meeting. Our chapter will be supplying sandwiches as a main course along with beverages and paper goods. The rest will be potluck, so please let Jenna know what you will be bringing! You can send her an email as mentioned on our Yahoo Groups picnic thread or use the Contact Us form to let us know.
HLAA-LA members joined thousands of other March for Science attendees in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, April 22, 2017, to show support for a cause that touches the lives of everyone with hearing loss. As President Heather Lehr explained, our goal was not to march against anyone or anything, but rather to show our support for government-supported research, while spreading awareness about hearing loss and hearing loss technology.
We have a real treat for our March chapter meeting: special guest speaker Sgt. Dan Widman, 23-year veteran of the LAPD, currently the Field Operations Supervisor, North Hollywood Division, AND the son of our very own President Pat Widman! Sgt. Widman will speak to us about a very important topic: how to interact with Law Enforcement when you have a hearing loss.
Ever wanted to talk with your hands? Imagine having a conversation with someone across a crowded room and never uttering a word with your mouth. ASL is a beautiful and expressive language that lets you chew and chat at the same time.
The theme of our February meeting is “Spring Forward,” as we celebrate our chapter’s growth and renewal. We will start things off with round-the-room introductions, which will give us a chance to briefly share about ourselves and hear each others’ stories. We will then discuss what’s in store for our chapter – future plans, fun times, and fresh leadership. We want to hear what you have to share! Please join us for what will be a lively and invigorating meeting.
A reminder! We now meet in the East Room of the Wingate Building at the Huntington Memorial Hospital, 100 W. California Ave, Pasadena.
