February’s Meeting – Relationships Panel Discussion and a New Home!
You can view the meeting transcript here.
(note – due to technical difficulties beyond our control, captioning was not available at the start of the meeting)
Audio-visual glitches didn’t stop us from enjoying a lively relationship panel yesterday morning moderated enthusiastically by Sandy. Nanci/Steve and Dana/Todd shared their experiences in communication when one partner has hearing loss and the other doesn’t, and how they support one another in the process, while Matthew shared powerful examples of coping with various challenges of working in a retail environment – background music, people talking to him from behind, and answering a LANDLINE PHONE, for starters. Sharon and Leora shared how a mother-daughter bond can improve through good humor and advocacy. Audience participation was fantastic – there was a lot of raw honesty and a heartfelt sharing of the trials and tribulations that result from our hearing challenges.
After the break was our big reveal: WE ARE MOVING!! Kudos to new attendees Chris and Jacqui for introducing us to our new location, beginning at our March 28th meeting: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, at 4650 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90027. It is at the corner of Sunset and Vermont and directly across the street from the Metro Red Line – perfect for those who do not want to deal with L.A. traffic, even on a Saturday morning! We will be meeting in the beautiful Dale Herkholtz conference room, parking vouchers will be available and coffee/juice/water will be provided. Please remember to bring food to share with our hungry group! We will be having a guest speaker from the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) – you won’t want to miss. Stay tuned for further details.
We have a couple of other SAVE THE DATES:
The 2020 HLAA Convention will take place June 18-20 in New Orleans, LA. Early bird registration ends on March 2nd. There is a link from our website to register: www.hlaa-la.org.
Our annual Walk4Hearing will be in our usual Long Beach location on Sunday, May 31st. We need a Walk Captain – it is a flexible and manageable (time) commitment – and we have our 2019 captain, Wendi Washington available to teach you everything you need to know to do the job. Please let us know if you can take this on – we need you!
