A great article found from Ken Cluskey regarding efforts underway in the UK to take “noise off the menu” from the charity’s Speak Easy campaign. Based on responses from individuals with AND without hearing, there is indeed great benefit to take steps toward providing a more meaningful and enjoyable experience when dining with others. It was an amazing 2016 HLAA National Convention! The LA Chapter was well represented with nine members attending, including the whole steering committee! Getting there and back home, well that was another story but everyone that attended can attest that it was well worth the experience.
The Walk was a great success. Our LA Stars Team was once again the top team at $4099 as of this am. Everyone did a great job getting donations this year. I want to congratulate our Wendi Washington for gathering $1392 in donations. Also congratulations to Liz Lesan who had $1212. Wow!
It was a fun time during the annual HLAA-LA Memorial Day party with beautiful weather. A great turnout showed up to catch up on the latest a greatest news with everyone. It was actually hard to say hi to everyone with so many people and great food! Especially rewarding was to see some folks we don’t get to see as often as we would like so a great environment all around.
We all know the world of hearing loss continues to be ever changing with new developments and news every day. Now it’s not reasonable to think we can post an article on the site every time something new comes to the forefront, that’s why we have news feeds for your viewing pleasure on the right side of each page (or at the bottom if viewing on a smartphone).

Many thanks to Lisa and Tim for putting together a great Power Point presentation that we used on Saturday to give what we called “The State of the Chapter Report”. We will post the Power Point soon so you can see what you missed it you weren’t there on Saturday. We’ll also post the transcript as soon as it’s available.
Our Annual HLAA-LA garage sale is right around the corner. This year our garage sale will be held at the home of Joe and Lisa Beth Snyder in Altadena. This fundraiser is one of our biggest efforts as we try to raise $1000 that goes toward the cost of captioning our meetings. At the end of the sale, any unsold items are always donated to charity.

We are having a very important meeting this Saturday and hope many of you will join us. We’ll be looking at the state of our chapter… where we’ve been, where we’re at, and where we’re headed. We can’t do this without your input! This is YOUR chapter, so please bring your thoughts, suggestions and ideas to this lively, open discussion.
