Packed House for our January Meeting!
Meeting transcript can be found here.
We had a packed house for our meeting last Saturday. Suzannah Hagan started us off with a terrific presentation – understanding audiograms, what it takes to be a cochlear implant recipient (and be covered for the surgery/equipment by insurance!), how Cis work, …. Due to a plethora of questions during the presentation, Suzannah only made it through a fraction of her slides, but we learned a lot from what we saw and heard!
After a short break, we had a most emotional and moving tribute in memory of our dear friend Kat Burns, one of the founders and most active members of HLAA-LA. Kat’s husband Danny (who is also one of HLAA-LA’s founders), joined us for the meeting and presented us with 2 extraordinarily generous checks that Kat had willed to our organization– one for our chapter and one for our National HQ in Bethesda, MD. Many members paid tribute to Kat by sharing personal stories and memories. Kat’s 1000 -megawatt smile, optimism, sense of playfulness, generous spirit, dedication to HLAA, and making people feel at home, were among common themes that many of us shared with the group. Kat was truly a bright light and an inspiration to us all.
Please SAVE THE DATE for our upcoming meeting on February 22nd. We will be having our annual “Valentine’s Day” inspired relationship panel. We are still looking for a volunteer “couple” or “single” (parent-child, child-parent, couple, single) to be part of our panel, so please let us know if you are interested!
