In Memory of Katherine “Kat” Burns
It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Katherine “Kat” Burns. Katherine and her husband Danny Tubbs were among the seven founding members of the LA chapter of HLAA. Kat is the only person in our chapter’s history to have served as president for three consecutive years. Over the years, she also served as treasurer and secretary, and she spent several years on the steering committee. Kat was known for her beautiful smile and warm personality. When she was the Walk4Hearing Captain, she named our team The LA Stars, and we have been shining ever since.
Katherine and Danny offered their home and hospitality to the chapter many times over the years. We have fond memories of garage sales and parties at their Glendale home, and none can forget the wonderful pool parties and barbecues in their beautiful backyard in Montrose. After moving to Carpinteria, despite health issues, Kat stepped up and became the president of the Santa Barbara chapter. Kat loved people, and she loved our organization. She attended numerous HLAA national conventions all over the country, representing us year after year with her smile and pride in our chapter.
Even after moving to Carpinteria, she made the trip south to attend the LA chapter meetings when she could. Her strength and dedication were remarkable. We shall miss her immensely! We will remember her for her hard work, love and dedication to our chapter as much as we will remember her for her fun, loving, and caring personality. We love you, Katherine ‘Kat’ Burns!
